Tv-serien i 12 afsnit om Brygger Jacobsen er en af de største danske tv-produktioner nogensinde. Bryggeren satte fokus på danmarkshistoriens store højdepunkter i årene 1834-1887, men fortalte først og fremmest historien om to generationers nådesløse kamp mod hinanden.

Instruktøren Kaspar Rostrup gennemlevede en hel nations industrialisering, udkæmpede to krige, nedlagde enevælden og gav Danmark en grundlov.

Bryggeren satte fokus på danmarkshistoriens store højdepunkter i årene 1834-1887, men fortalte først og fremmest historien om to generationers nådesløse kamp mod hinanden.

På grund af historiens store tidsmæssige spredning delte flere skuespillere samme rolle. I alt medvirkede 280 skuespillere og 4000 statister.
