Fremragende prisbelønnet tysk drama om forfatteren Thomas Mann og hans familie. For første gang på dansk DVD.

Serien har vundet et utal af inter-nationale priser – Emmy Award, Goldene Kamera, Golden Gate Award og flere.

Historien er baseret på dokumentar-materiale om familien Manns liv og levned og indeholder alt, hvad man kan ønske sig af drama, intriger, kunst, krig og død. I hovedrollerne er blandt andre Armin Mueller-Stahl (“Eastern Promises”) og Sebastian Koch (“De andres liv”).

I 1900 skriver den 25-årige Thomas Mann en genial roman “Buddenbrooks - En families forfald” - fortællingen om forretningsmanden fra det velstillede borgerskab og hans families totale opløsning. Et værk der senere gav Mann Nobels litteraturpris. TV-serien fortæller om Thomas Manns liv, hans exceptionelt kunstneriske familie og deres efterkommere. Familiens voldsomme op- og nedture, intriger, død og misbrug.
