Henrik Stangerup - At skrive eller dø

At skrive eller dø: På en filmisk togrejse med en række vidner til hans liv, tegnes et billede af forfatteren, debattøren og filminstruktøren Henrik Stangerup (1937-1998).

Henrik Stangerup er en af Danmarks væsentligste kunstnere - som også fik international anerkendelse. Han var barnebarn af den store svenske forfatter Hjalmer Søderberg. Hans mor var flimstjerne - hans far en kendt og kontroversiel litteraturprofessor.

Henrik Stangerup provokerede ikke for provokationens skyld. Han kæmpede og levede for friheden til at tvivle, bryde op og bevæge sig, mentalt som fysisk. Ole Roos' film er en film om den pris, Henrik Stangerup betalte for det.

 

At forråde virkeligheden: En dokumentar, der går bag om Ole Roos' filmportræt af sin afdøde ven Henrik Stangerup. "Kun af dog jeg forrådes" sagde Henrik Stangerup da Ole Roos i 1990 skulle filmatisere en af Stangerups romaner. Lasse Jensen fortæller i AT RÅDE VIRKELIGHEDEN hvorfor Ole Roos lavede filmen om en kunstners kamp mod dæmoner og en vanskelig omverden - en film, der også handler om instruktøren selv og om hans nære venskab med Stangerup.
